Some call me "Mr. Weather", but those who know me best simply call me Kris!
I was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. I began my college career at Eastern New Mexico University. Upon arriving at Eastern, I had planned to pursue a degree in Bio Chemical Engineering but a few days after September 11, I joined KENW TV - 3 and News 3 New Mexico, the leading PBS affiliate in Eastern New Mexico. There, I was a reporter and photographer, but soon moved to weather. I graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a B.S. in Broadcast Production. I also completed a second B.S. in Atmospheric Science (Geo-sciences) with Mississippi State University, and most recently completed my Masters in Communication from Eastern New Mexico University.
After leaving college I worked as the weekend Meteorologist and weekday photographer with the KZTV Action 10 News in Corpus Christi, Texas where I spent two years forecasting hurricanes and local weather. I longed to return to my Eastern New Mexico roots, so I accepted a position with KAMR NBC4 in Amarillo, Texas as the Morning Meteorologist and co-host of Today in Amarillo. I also got the added perk of spending the year chasing twisters! Fortunately for me, I had caught the attention of "Doppler" Dave Oliver and was offered the position of Weekend Meteorologist/Lead Storm Chaser at KFDA News Channel 10.
After two and a half years in the Texas Panhandle I was looking for a change and I found it in Abilene and San Angelo, TX as the Chief Meteorologist for KXVA/KIDY. I chased my share of tornadoes, and decided it was time for a change of pace. That change presented itself in KMTR in Springfield, Oregon. I have been the Chief Meteorologist at KMTR for three years. During my time in Oregon, I found that the tornadoes followed me! Oregon was so good to me. I loved the people and the area. I won the Weatherist’s Favorite Weathercaster vote and then was honored with an Emmy!
Sadly, all great things have to come to an end and I became the Chief Meteorologist at KREX in Grand Junction, Colorado. I have been here for two years and I can definitely say that the weather here is hotter! I have had the honor of being the Master of Ceremonies for the Palisade Christmas Tree lighting and have been at least and Honorable Mention for my gingerbread houses (all weather themed) in the annual Gingerbread House competition.
